Better Letters kicks off with a 3 x 3 grid of Word Rule cards. As the game progresses in later rounds, the grid expands up to a 5 x 5. To set up, shuffle and distribute nine Word rule cards in a 3 x 3 grid at the center of the play area. Shuffle the personal objective cards and hand out three to each player. Each player chooses two to keep secretly and discards the other. Also, provide all players with six tokens in their respective player colors.

How to play Better Letters: First, set up the game by shuffling and making a 3 x 3 grid of Word Rule cards in the middle of the play area. Shuffle the personal objective cards and give three to each player. Each player should pick two to keep secret and throw away the rest. Then, hand out six tokens of each player's color. As the game goes on, the grid of Word Rule cards can get as big as 5 x 5. Remember to keep your objective cards hidden from other players. After the game, keep the cards and tokens in a dry place to maintain their quality.
